Walking in Authority: How to Claim Your Spiritual Inheritance
Many believers live their Christian walk unaware of the authority that has already been given to them in Christ. Salvation is not only a ticket to heaven, it is also the doorway to an inheritance that empowers us to walk in victory on earth. When Jesus declared on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30), every curse, every chain, and every assignment of the enemy was broken. Yet, if we do not claim that inheritance by faith, we risk living far beneath the destiny God has designed for us.
Walking in authority begins with identity. When we know who we are in Christ as sons and daughters of God we approach life with a confidence rooted in heaven, not in human strength. This identity allows us to resist the lies of the enemy, to silence fear, and to speak the promises of God over our lives and families. Authority means we no longer bow to generational curses or spiritual bondage but instead declare freedom through the blood of Jesus.
Claiming your inheritance also requires intimacy. Authority is not about shouting louder or performing rituals, it is about relationship. As we spend time in prayer, fasting, and soaking in God’s Word, the Spirit reminds us of what already belongs to us. Healing, peace, wisdom, and breakthrough are not distant hopes, they are part of the inheritance secured at Calvary.
Consider Joshua. God promised Israel the land, but Joshua still had to lead the people to step into it. In the same way, we cannot remain passive. Our inheritance must be walked into through obedience, persistence, and faith. The promises are already written in heaven, but we bring them into reality by aligning our steps with God’s Word.
Walking in authority also impacts the next generation. When you stand firm and break strongholds in your family, you are not only setting yourself free, you are paving a path for your children to walk in greater freedom. What once plagued your bloodline such as addiction, poverty, or oppression can be replaced with blessing, prosperity, and favor in Christ.
Your spiritual inheritance is not something to be earned, it is already yours. The question is, will you rise and claim it? The Father is calling His children to walk in authority, not timidity, knowing that all of heaven backs the one who believes.
God placed each of us here with a purpose. He is the Author and the Director of our story, and every role He has written for us carries meaning. When we walk in His authority, we are stepping fully into the script He intended, moving in the calling that releases His glory through our lives.
The enemy knows this. He knows that when we rise into the role God designed, blessings flow and testimonies shine. That is why he works tirelessly to twist the plot, to insert counterfeit narratives that distract us, confuse us, or make us believe we are unworthy. His schemes are aimed at tricking us out of our rightful story so that the light of God remains hidden.
But we are not called to live as background characters in someone else’s deception. We are called to stand firm, discerning the voice of God above the noise, and rejecting every counterfeit plot. Authority in Christ means refusing to give the enemy the pen to write our lives.
Once, I ordered a computer so that I could begin working from home. Up until that point, I had six months with no issues with my internet. But the moment I made the decision to step into this new season, strange things began happening. Suddenly, I had to upgrade and repair my internet box, and the laptop I had purchased ended up with a very old processor that made it slower than the one I had previously owned. I had to spend hours troubleshooting with ChatGPT just to get it working well enough.
Here’s where God showed His hand: two weeks later, completely out of the blue, I received a payment from AliExpress for the exact amount I had spent on the laptop. I never requested a refund, and still had the computer in my possession. It was a miracle, a clear blessing. I decided to use that unexpected funds to purchase a tablet I truly needed for my work.
But then came the enemy’s counterattack. The package for the tablet arrived, supposedly weighing 0.77kg, yet when I opened the box, it was completely empty. Not only that it came a day later. I had physical proof of both strange incidents: the miraculous funds and the attempt to rob me my blessing.
This is the clearest example of how the enemy tries to rewrite our stories. God blesses, but Satan tries to conceal it or steal it, hoping we’ll question God’s goodness or give up on the path He has set before us. But when you walk in authority, you recognize the counterfeit for what it is, and you continue forward, knowing God’s script for your life cannot be erased.
You have the power to say, No, this is not my story. God has already spoken over me. When you claim that authority, you cancel out the enemy’s attempts to steal your blessings, your joy, and your destiny. The truth is that your story is not just about you; it is about revealing the glory of God to those who are watching.
You learn that you are in control of speaking over your life. I often ask myself, if this were me without knowing it was a simulation and the enemy was trying to sabotage me, how would I respond? My answer is clear: I would persevere and keep going. I might question it, I might even cry and feel frustrated, but I would try my best. Fortunately, God has given me the advantage of seeing behind the curtains. I understand that I am the protagonist in this story, and I ultimately decide what I do next. I am no one’s puppet.
So walk in your authority. Step into the role Heaven already wrote for you. Do not let the enemy rewrite it. Stand tall in the script God authored, because when you live it out, His glory shines, His power is revealed, and His victory is displayed through your life.
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” (Luke 10:19)
