Unlocking the Power of Speaking in Tongues

In January 2025, during a challenging season of gang stalking and spiritual awakening, I found myself far from my familiar life in Barcelona. Tired, confused, and deeply unsettled by the strange occurrences surrounding me, I rented an apartment in France with my children to seek rest and clarity and set out for a new life. It was in this vulnerable space that many powerful and mysterious experiences began to unfold, one in particular that would eventually reveal a hidden gift within me.

One evening, taking a nap, I entered a vivid dream. In this dream, I was standing in a long hospital hall and noticed a life-size white Eskimo plush dog. Something about the stuffed animal made me instinctively begin to confront it and start speaking in tongues, Something I hadn’t ever done in real life. A man across from me, dressed in a suit, looked frightened and shocked. Suddenly, I felt a sharp hit to my throat, and it was as if my vocal cords were blocked, silencing me in the dream.

I awoke, and sensed a strange frequency lift off me. My daughter at that same moment was picking up my cellphone that had been sitting directly in front of me during my sleep. Maybe that was divine timing. The moment she moved it, the oppressive sensation lifted, as if something unseen had been aimed at me as I slept. I asked her “what was that?” , but she was unaware of anything unusual. I told her I felt the sensation lift as she took away the phone. ( May this be another precaution against having cellphones near your head as you sleep.)

For months, this experience stayed at the back of my mind, a puzzle waiting to be solved. For several days after I massaged vicks and tea tree oil in the area, nervous because I felt the bump on ridge of my cricord cartilage felt a bit enlarged. As with many experiences that I have had I have noticed these entities seemed to always target my solar plexus, navel and throat chakras.

Seven months later, I albeit unexpectedly, by myself performed an exorcism on my niece in our bathroom mirror with my children beside me. I had been guided to a prayer meant for petitioning the Courts of Heaven to restore Inheritance; by a video from a prophetess I saw online. I was shocked but then clarity came.

I connected the dots, realizing that the dream was a revelation of a gift of tongues quietly awakening within me to be able to fulfill my calling to deliverance and healing. This would explain why the enemy was so on my back so to speak. I finally understood exactly what threat I posed to the kingdom of Darkness and its demonic agents.

Curious and seeking understanding, I began listening to others speaking in tongues for the first time. During one session, I felt a profound shift, a vibration deep in my throat chakra. The voices speaking in tongues seemed to unblock energetically whatever had been blocking my throat, making it feel some how less constricted. It just did!

Despite this , Until now, I have yet to speak in tongues aloud myself. I believe it should come naturally, not forced or faked. I still feel self conscious of sounding like I am saying gibberish, although I am aware It wouldn’tbe gibberish at all. Many misunderstand this. I know, beyond a doubt, that speaking in tongues is a direct, divine communication with God through the Spirit. When the time is right, I trust that I will step into this gift fully. Like every spiritual journey, it requires practice, faith, and conviction.

The Scriptural Foundation of Speaking in Tongues
Speaking in tongues, or glossolalia, is biblically rooted in both the New and Old Testaments. The most well-known account occurs in Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit descends upon the apostles during Pentecost, and they begin speaking in different languages, understood by many nations gathered in Jerusalem. This supernatural event marked the birth of the early Church and demonstrated divine empowerment. Paul further teaches about tongues in 1 Corinthians 12–14, calling it one of the spiritual gifts distributed by the Holy Spirit. He notes, “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 14:2. Paul also clarifies the order and purpose of tongues, encouraging discernment and edification. Speaking in tongues is seen as a way to pray in the Spirit, bypassing the limitations of the mind and allowing the Holy Spirit to intercede directly Romans 8:26.

Denominational Views and Historical Context
Historically, the practice of tongues can be traced through early Church Fathers, though it became less common in mainstream practice until the Pentecostal revival in the early 1900s, beginning with the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles. Today, tongues are central to Pentecostal and Charismatic denominations, including the Assemblies of God, Church of God in Christ, and non-denominational Charismatic churches. While Catholic Charismatic Renewal movements also affirm tongues as a valid gift of the Holy Spirit, other branches like traditional Catholicism, mainline Protestantism, and Reformed churches often express skepticism or limit the practice, interpreting it as a sign gift no longer in use. Controversy arises around the misuse or overemphasis of tongues, particularly when done without interpretation, or when emotionalism overrides sound doctrine. Still, many believers testify to its power as a private prayer language, a tool for spiritual warfare, and a means of deeper intimacy with God.

Testimonies and the Impact of Speaking in Tongues
Countless testimonies describe the power released through speaking in tongues. People have shared stories of deliverance from spiritual oppression, emotional healing, and supernatural encounters after engaging in Spirit-led prayer. In some exorcisms, particularly within Pentecostal and Catholic Charismatic ministries, tongues have accompanied the breaking of demonic strongholds. Believers often describe the moment of receiving tongues as a breaking open of their spiritual senses, especially the throat or voice center, which had been silenced by trauma, shame, or spiritual attack.

Some say they have seen immediate freedom from depression, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts. Others experience inner visions, prophetic insight, or deeper peace and clarity. While not everyone receives this gift, it is undeniable that many find speaking in tongues to be a gateway into a more intimate, Spirit-filled life, where discernment increases, fear decreases, and the presence of God becomes palpable.

The Healing Power of Tongues; Even When You Don’t Speak It

You don’t have to speak in tongues yourself to feel its impact. The language of the Spirit carries frequency, anointing, and deliverance power that bypasses the natural mind and goes straight to the root of issues of the body, soul, or spirit.

Just being present in the atmosphere can bring:

  • Deliverance from spiritual oppression

  • Loosening of blocked or wounded areas (especially the throat, chest, or stomach)

  • Emotional healing and spontaneous crying or yawning

  • Activation of dormant spiritual gifts

  • Release from trauma and fear
