The Truth About Chakras: Discernment Between Energy and Deception

The conversation around chakras has grown louder in today’s spiritual circles and as Christians, we can’t keep avoiding it. Too many believers either blindly reject it as demonic. The truth, as always, sits in the Spirit-led middle. I’m a follower of Christ. I believe in the power of prayer, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. But I also believe chakras are real. I’ve experienced their activation firsthand, through prayer, not through ritual, not through a yoga pose, and definitely not through reiki.

Let me explain.

Chakras, often described as energy centers along the spine, are spoken about heavily in Eastern traditions. That fact alone makes many Christians fearful; But avoiding something out of fear or ignorance isn’t the same as walking in discernment. Just because the world or the occult has twisted a truth doesn’t mean the truth never existed. The body is fearfully and wonderfully made. It is designed by God to move in energy, frequency, and spiritual connection.

In 1 Corinthians 6:19, Paul reminds us: “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.” A temple isn't random, it has structure, layers, and sanctified spaces. Why would our physical and energetic design be any different?

I personally experienced what many would call a root chakra activation not during meditation, but during 3 a.m. prayer, when the Spirit often nudges me to wake up and intercede. As I prayed deeply, not seeking any sensation but simply connecting with God, I entered what I can only describe as a trance-like state. Some call it theta. It's a place of deep connection. That’s when I felt heat rise up my back, settle under my seat, and flow back down again. It returned a second time. At first, I brushed it off as maybe posture-related discomfort but the second time, I knew in my spirit it was something deeper. It was energy moving. Not because I called on any being or forced it but because the Holy Spirit was flowing through me in a moment of true surrender.

How can I deny what I lived?

To me, this is what it means to have “chakras” or call them spiritual centers, if that feels more biblical. They exist, and can be aligned and opened through Christ, through prayer, through holiness just as much as any other method.

Here’s a Christian parallel to each chakra for your discernment:

  • Root (Security, Survival): Our foundation in God. “The Lord is my rock.”

  • Sacral (Creativity, Emotions): Our soul expression sanctified, not sexualized.

  • Solar Plexus (Confidence, Power): Our authority in Christ. “I can do all things through Christ.”

  • Heart (Love, Compassion): Where the Spirit dwells. “Create in me a clean heart.”

  • Throat (Truth, Communication): Speaking the Word boldly. “Open my lips, Lord.”

  • Third Eye (Intuition, Vision): Godly discernment and prophetic sight. “Your young men will see visions.”

  • Crown (Divine Connection): Our union with the Father. “We have the mind of Christ.”

Christian-Aligned Energy Centers:

A Faith-Based Reflection on Body-Spirit Connections

1. Divine Connection Point (Crown / Top of Head)

Focus: Spiritual clarity, surrender, unity with God.
This is where we connect with the presence of God above all else. Where we release control and welcome divine understanding.

2. Discernment Gate (Forehead / Third Eye)

Focus: Wisdom, spiritual vision.
Here lies spiritual insight, godly discernment and the ability to see with spiritual eyes through the Holy Spirit.

3. Voice of Truth (Throat)

Focus: Speaking truth, declaring God's will.
This area holds your ability to express what is right, bold, and God-led. It’s about courageously speaking life and aligning your voice with His.

4. Chamber of Love (Heart)

Focus: Love, forgiveness, emotional and inner healing.
The heart is where we reflect God’s love. It’s the center of compassion, healing wounds, and releasing forgiveness.

5. Place of Peace (Stomach / Solar Plexus)

Focus: Identity, rest, confidence in Christ.
This center holds our personal sense of worth and power, not worldly power, but the peace and confidence that comes from knowing who you are in Him.

6. Creative Design Gate (Pelvis / Sacral)

Focus: God-given creativity, purity, purpose.
The seat of creation, not just physical but creative expression. When yielded to God, it reflects holy imagination and sacred design.

7. Foundation of Safety (Base of Spine / Root)

Focus: Stability, trust in God’s provision.
This is where we anchor into the truth that God is our provider and protector. It grounds us in faith when the world shakes.

As I said people always associate this ancient knowledge with New Age, I do not promote reiki. Why? Because of its origin and the channeling involved. The founder of reiki claimed to receive it through spirit beings and that is a red flag. You do not know the energy of the person placing hands over you. You don’t know their spirit or what they carry. But you do know the Holy Spirit.

You don’t need someone else to open your chakras for you. You need God. Through spiritual development, repentance, worship, fasting, and prayer, your soul begins to detox. And when there are no more blockages, emotional, generational, or spiritual; yes, you will feel the shift in your body. Your energy will rise. Your perception sharpens. You become aligned but not with the Holy Spirit.

So no, Christians shouldn’t be afraid of chakras. But we should approach them with clarity, not confusion. With spiritual maturity. Let’s reclaim what God built into our temples and stop letting the enemy hijack every spiritual system for his purposes.

Energy is real.
The Spirit is real.
And our discernment must be even more real.
