Life After 40: Entrepreneurship, and Reinventing Yourself
Starting Over at 40: A Sacred Shift
When I was younger, 40 felt old. Born in 1984, I grew up on movies where even the teenagers looked like adults, so you can imagine how I pictured someone actually being 40. But in 2024, I turned 40 and I have to say, I looked in the mirror and thanked God. I made it. In one piece. And honestly? I look great for my age.
But it wasn’t just about the outside. I started my life over at 40.
I left my job teaching. I moved to a new country where I didn’t speak the language and didn’t know a soul. I chose to listen to my spirit and follow what was in full alignment for me. I founded Sacred Mindshift not out of crisis, but out of clarity.
Some might say it’s a midlife phenomena. Maybe. But for me, it’s not a breakdown, it’s a breakthrough.
As a single mom now living in the south of France, I know I’m not alone. So many women feel this internal nudge at this stage in life. We grow into our voice. We know what we want, and we’re less afraid to ask for it or build it ourselves.
I have experience. I have spiritual depth. And I want more out of life than what we were sold growing up. The picture-perfect, step-by-step life path? It never fit. Not for me. And probably not for you either.
So here I am. 40. Free. Fierce. Following God's lead.
There’s something quietly powerful about hitting 40. It’s not just another birthday, it’s a mirror. A point where you begin to ask deeper questions:
Am I living aligned with who I truly am?
What have I been tolerating that no longer fits?
What am I really here to do?
For many women, 40 brings an internal shift. The striving quiets down. The performance ends. You realize you’re not interested in impressing anyone, you want to express what’s been buried or postponed. Your soul starts knocking louder. And often, that knock is the call to reinvent.
You’re Not Starting Over; You’re Starting With Wisdom
Society may tell you 40 is late, but spiritually, it’s right on time.
You’ve walked through fire. You’ve loved and lost. You’ve raised children, buried dreams, and carried invisible battles. But now, all that experience becomes fuel.
Entrepreneurship after 40 isn’t about climbing ladders. It’s about building what God put on your heart, something more authentic, more soul-rooted.
You stop asking, “What will they think?”
And you start asking, “What’s needed? What heals? What honors my gifts?”
Hormonal Transitions and Emotional Awareness
As women approach their 40s, hormonal changes associated with perimenopause and menopause can lead to mood fluctuations, sleep disturbances, and shifts in libido. These physiological changes often prompt deeper self-reflection and a reevaluation of personal needs and desires.
The Number 40 in Scripture and Symbolism
In the Bible, the number 40 symbolizes testing, preparation, and transformation.
Jesus fasted in the wilderness for 40 days.
The Israelites wandered 40 years before entering the Promised Land.
Moses spent 40 days on Mount Sinai receiving divine instructions.
→ Spiritual meaning: Age 40 often represents the completion of one cycle of preparation and the beginning of stepping into divine assignment. It’s the “wilderness to wisdom” threshold.
The Soul Maturity Cycle
Many mystics, including those in Jungian psychology, believe that around 40, the ego begins to dissolve and make space for the soul to rise. The focus shifts from:
Approval → authenticity
Performance → purpose
Seeking → surrender
→ Spiritual meaning: Midlife marks the emergence of the true self, unburdened by childhood programming and societal masks.
Kundalini and Divine Feminine Energy
Kundalini energy (or divine feminine energy) lies dormant until midlife when spiritual hunger intensifies.
It is believed that for many women:
Around 40, this energy begins to awaken spontaneously, especially if they’ve gone through trauma, deep introspection, or major life shifts.
→ Spiritual meaning: A woman’s spiritual womb becomes more active than her physical one. She births ideas, visions, and healing instead of just children.
Sacred Discontent
Some spiritual teachers (like Parker Palmer and even Christian mystics) describe what hits around this time as sacred discontent; a holy restlessness. It’s God’s way of nudging you out of the comfort zone and into the calling zone.
→ Spiritual meaning: You’re not falling apart—you’re being called higher. The dissatisfaction isn’t rebellion; it’s divine realignment.
Collective Soul Shift (Generational Timing)
We’re also in a time where many people born in the late 70s to mid-80s are hitting 40 and realizing they were born into a matrix system but not for it. This generation was seeded to dismantle false narratives and awaken others.
→ Spiritual meaning: It’s generational. You are a torchbearer in a collective awakening.
The Sacred Shift: From Surviving to Creating
Many women hit 40 exhausted from survival mode. But there’s a sacred shift waiting: the move from survival to creation.
You realize your value isn’t tied to a job title or a paycheck.
It’s in the way you hold space. The stories you carry. The spiritual authority you’ve earned from your scars.
You may launch a business, write that book, start speaking, or mentor others.
And you won’t be doing it for applause—you’ll do it because your soul won’t stay quiet anymore.
Why Starting a Business at 40 Makes Spiritual and Strategic Sense
By 40, you've lived enough to know what drains you, what lies don’t work, and what environments stifle your spirit. This is priceless.
DON’T try to copy younger influencers or trends that don’t align with your spirit.
Your advantage is that your brand can carry soul, authority, and emotional intelligence that younger entrepreneurs may still be developing.
DO use your story—it’s your superpower.
DON’T downplay your life experience to “fit in.”
DO treat your business like a ministry.
DON’T start something just for profit; it must align with your soul.
Start lean – Use your wisdom to avoid overwhelm and unnecessary spending.
Invest in mentorship – Seek people aligned with both your values and your vision.
Tap into community – You’re not meant to do it alone. Join women-led entrepreneur circles or Christian women business forums.
Use your age to your advantage – You’re relatable to younger and older audiences. Position yourself as a bridge.
Prioritize health and boundaries – You’re not in your 20s. Your business must support your well-being, not sacrifice it.
Don’t seek approval – You don’t need validation from people who don’t understand your call.
Don’t compare your pace – You’re not late; you’re right on divine time.
Don’t skip inner work – Unhealed wounds will show up in your business if you don’t deal with them.
Don’t overcomplicate your message – Speak from the heart, not from the algorithm.
Owning a Business is a very spiritual experience and a lot of its success depends on what state you are in spiritually and vibrationally.
The Real You Was Never Lost; Just Covered
Reinvention after 40 doesn’t mean becoming someone new.
It means stripping away what’s false; the people-pleasing, the perfectionism, the smallness and returning to what’s been waiting under the surface all along.
Your creativity.
Your faith.
Your calling.
Your voice.
It’s time to use all of it. Boldly. Bravely. Without asking permission.
You are not too late. You are right on time.
If your spirit is stirring, pay attention. You’re not crazy—you’re being called. And when you say yes to that call, you don’t just change your life. You shift everything around you.
This is your Sacred Mindshift.
Let’s walk it together.
