Discerning False Prophets: Guarding Your Spirit in Troubling Times
We are living in a time where many voices are speaking but not every voice is from God. The Lord warned us that in the last days false prophets would arise, deceiving many with smooth words and signs that appear powerful. It is no surprise that confusion abounds, because the enemy works best in environments where people are hungry for hope but do not test what they are hearing against the truth of Scripture.
As a personal note, I often reflect on the fact that many people have their ideas and opinions, but there is only one truth. My stance on the world being a simulation may sound outlandish to most Christians. My acknowledgment of the importance of frequency and energy raises even more eyebrows. Some would argue that my belief in reincarnation is not biblical, while others dismiss my acceptance of crystals as tools for aura augmentation as New Age. Many also consider my integration of chakras into scripture as blasphemy.
Yet it is precisely through exploring all of these ideas that I came to the unshakable realization that Jesus is the truth, and it is what fuels my desire to evangelize. Before I began praying with more fervor, I had already seen much. It was my direct experiences with witchcraft and, of course, the spiritual attacks I endured that taught me the importance of drawing close to God. Through those battles, I realized the vast number of forces and influences that exist in this world, and just how much the enemy is capable of doing.
False prophets often appeal to emotion and desire. They promise quick blessings, instant breakthroughs, or secret knowledge that only they can give. Yet Jesus made it clear that by their fruit we will know them. If a voice leads us into pride, fear, confusion, or away from Christ, it is not the voice of the Shepherd. The true Spirit of God brings humility, repentance, and peace.
One practice I rely on is listening with discernment and asking the Holy Spirit to guide me. Over the years, I have learned to sense immediately when something is out of alignment. One lesson I picked up from listening to Esther Hicks is that when something does not resonate with truth or higher energy, you feel it instantly. This has become one of my primary ways of discerning people and teachings.
I have noticed there are two types of people to watch for. One group consists of those who simply lack knowledge, who have been programmed, and are repeating what they have been taught without understanding. The other group includes those actively trying to lead others into harmful actions, often very judgmental, pushing hate or division, or favoring one group while demonizing another. Anyone who tries to forcefully persuade, punish, or ostracize those who do not go along is also showing signs that you are dealing with a false prophet.
A true prophet or prophetess understands that not everyone is ready to hear the same message. The words they share are not meant for every ear, but for those who need to hear them. They reach people through authenticity, light, and love, not through manipulation, trickery, threat, or violence. Love and higher frequency are reflected in the speech and actions of a true messenger, and their guidance lifts rather than oppresses.
Recognizing this is essential, because there are demons lurking in every race, religion, creed, and organization. We are not dealing merely with flesh and blood but with souls, non-souled individuals, and spiritual deception. Most authentic teachings align perfectly with the words and example of Jesus. His Word is the benchmark, the lens through which we can discern truth from illusion, and the tool for guarding our hearts in a world filled with manipulation and hidden agendas.
Throughout history, the people of God have been called to discern. In the Old Testament, Israel was warned against prophets who spoke from their own imaginations rather than from the mouth of the Lord. In the New Testament, Paul cautioned believers to test every spirit and to hold fast to what is good. The Word of God has always been our foundation, and without it we are vulnerable to deception.
Psychologically, false prophets often play on the human need for certainty and direction. When life feels unstable, people long for guidance, and a persuasive personality can easily gain influence. Spiritually, however, this is a form of manipulation, a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit’s true guidance. Recognizing this helps us guard our hearts and remain rooted in God’s promises rather than being swayed by charisma.
To discern wisely, we must stay close to Christ. Prayer, fasting, and meditation on the Word sharpen our spiritual senses. The Holy Spirit will never contradict Scripture, and He will never lead us to worship man rather than God. When we walk in intimacy with the Lord, our spirit becomes attuned to His voice, making it easier to detect when something feels off.
Another sign of a leader who is not operating under the guidance of the Holy Spirit is someone who does not call people to act with integrity or stand up for truth. Instead, they compromise, accommodate, or normalize behaviors that go against God’s Word. For example, churches that perform same-sex weddings or openly accept self-identifying homosexual ministers are not acting in alignment with the Spirit. True spiritual guidance calls believers to uphold God’s standards while walking in love, not to bend Scripture to fit cultural trends or personal preferences. Leaders who encourage compromise over obedience to God’s Word are steering people away from the truth rather than toward it.
A true leader guides through love, integrity, and teaching aligned with the Holy Spirit. Their focus is on leading people closer to God, not on controlling them for personal gain or inflating the numbers in a congregation. Any tactic that pressures, manipulates, or shames people into obedience, giving, or participation is a red flag. The pastor locking in congregation members till they pay the sufficient amount of tithe is definitely not one coming from God but from a worldly or even demonic source.
I will always try my best to give accurate information to people seeking help and truth, and I strive to be sympathetic to the degree that I can, speaking in love where it is merited. At the same time, I will never omit the things I feel are central and essential to spiritual ascension in order to compromise or fit into any boxes, whether religious, cultural, or racial. I speak from my experiences, my revelations, and the truths I have received, which I feel are aligned with the Holy Spirit. Every bit of information I give is meant for those in the body of Christ, my brothers and sisters in Christ, those with souls trying to make their way out of this matrix.
Ephesians 4:15:
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ."
Guarding your spirit is not about living in fear but about walking in wisdom. The Lord equips us with discernment so that we can remain steadfast even in troubling times. As deception increases in the world, so does the power of God’s truth for those who remain faithful. Remember that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and no false voice can override the authority of His Word.
